When you look into a New Englander’s closet it is not hard to find pieces that most would think look similar. If you are into fashion and need to keep up with the seasonal trends, you understand when I say that one piece never looks like another one. My mind travels back in time and remembers voices saying, sometimes from my mother or even my grandmother, "Why do you need to have another black jacket if you already have one?" To me there is not one jacket that looks like another. Yes, everyone should own basics, which I will talk about in detail this later week.

Jackets might be the same color but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will work for the same occasion. For example, you might want to look more professional on a night out with coworkers and wear a black blazer. Or, if your coworkers are anything like mine, you might want to go edgier and wear a cape. Of course, if I’m coming straight from a busy day, you might still catch me wearing one of my favorite fall hats.

This cape was handmade by Jeffrey Dickerson, a local fashion designer. It was a pleasure meeting Jeffrey two nights before his first show at StyleWeek Northeast. He showcased his collection for the first time last season. His collections are sold at Nude, in the Providence Arcade. My favorite color is black and white. In my book, they aren’t even separate colors anymore. They became one about 3 years ago when I started using them together way too often.
